Ben Ottewell and Ian Ball of Gomez are coming together for an intimate run of duet performances this Spring. Ottewell and Ball’s first release with Gomez, a five piece British act, the 1998 break-out Bring It On, launched a spectacular career punctuated with the distinguished Mercury Prize, multiple platinum selling records and legions of devoted fans spanning three continents.Later awards came from the NME and Q Magazine along with a Brit Awards nomination. Gomez’s music covers the genres blues, indie, alternative, rock, folk, psychedelic and experimental. Their albums Out West, How We Operate and New Tide are their most successful statewide releases Taking a break from writing sessions for Gomez’s next record and prep for the 20th anniversary of Liquid Skin, the duo’s performances will draw from Gomez fan-favorites, highlights from their respective solo projects, and perhaps offer an opportunity to road-test some of their newest work
Ian Ball has released two solo records entitled Who Goes There (2007) and Unfold Yourself (2013). Ball worked on the side project Operation Aloha with other members of Gomez. The experimental project designed by photographer Christopher Wray-McCann brought together 14 of his friends, living in tree houses making songs with whatever they could bring to the island of Maui, Hawaii.
Ben Ottewell and other members of Gomez created the Final Keep Me Up in 2009. They recorded an album using only iPhones in the back lounge of the tour bus from Calais to Köln, on 2 May 2009. The album exists only in streaming form. Ottewell has released three solo records: Shapes & Shadows (2011), Rattlebag (2014) and A Man Apart (2017).
Opening the evening is Talmon Owen & James Murray!
Owens and Murray opened for Live in the Vines with Brett Dennen in 2016. When they play and sing together the result is a truly unique musical experience, soulful and meaningful, humorous and engaging, these guys are as comfortable and natural as singer/songwriters can be.
